POWERCHINA’s Haveli Project Brings Flood Relief to Jhang: Medical Camps and Food for 150 People

2 min read No comments

Corporate relief is reaching Jhang’s flood-hit villages as POWERCHINA’s Haveli operations-and-maintenance project has launched an emergency response in the district, providing health checks, medicines and food to affected families.

The relief effort

According to a company statement reported by Gwadar Pro, the Haveli O&M Project moved quickly after the floods submerged hundreds of villages across Jhang. So far, the project has provided health checks, medicines and food to around 150 people. The effort is running under the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, which includes free medical camps and a community nourishment drive for flood-affected families.

POWERCHINA said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and keep fulfilling its social responsibilities, contributing to local disaster relief as the district moves from rescue into recovery. For families still dealing with standing water, damaged homes and lost crops, sustained help of this kind matters more than one-off distributions.

Jhang among the worst-hit

The relief comes as the scale of this year’s flooding becomes clearer. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), monsoon-related incidents have killed 300 people across Punjab since June 26 and left 661 injured, while more than 2.8 million people in the province have been rescued or evacuated. Jhang is counted among the worst-hit districts, with floodwaters engulfing more than 200 villages, sweeping away homes and destroying standing crops.

The district’s own figures tell the same story: earlier briefings recorded 423,594 people and 223,424 animals rescued, with 311 villages damaged, a population of 563,000 affected, and nearly 381,000 acres of land inundated. Relief camps continue to serve three meals a day while damage surveys guide the next phase of rehabilitation.

The Haveli connection

The Haveli Bahadur Shah Combined Cycle Power Plant, located in Jhang, is one of the most efficient power stations in the world, operating at 62.45 per cent efficiency on regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG). Built under an EPC contract by POWERCHINA, the 1,230-megawatt plant began simple cycle operations in July 2017 and full combined cycle commercial operations in May 2018. Its operations and maintenance are managed by SEPCOIII, a POWERCHINA subsidiary.

The plant’s presence in Jhang is the reason its operator is on the ground responding to the district’s crisis — a reminder that the companies which work in a district have a stake in its recovery too.
