Two Accidents in Jhang Leave Three Injured and a 65-Year-Old Woman Dead

3 min read No comments

Two separate traffic accidents in Jhang district left three people injured and a 65-year-old woman dead, Rescue 1122 reported on 6 November, in a second day of serious road casualties across the district.

Rescue 1122 teams reached both scenes after receiving emergency calls, gave first aid to the injured and shifted them to hospital. The woman, however, had already died by the time rescuers arrived.

The first accident took place on Toba Road, near Basti Islamabad, where two motorcycles collided. According to the report, the collision happened after one of the riders apparently took a wrong turn. Three people were injured: 15-year-old Ali Ahmed, 40-year-old Mumtaz and 19-year-old Ali Hamza. All three belong to Mouza Bagh on Toba Road. Rescue workers gave them first aid at the scene and then shifted them to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Jhang.

The second accident happened in the Chund Bharwana area, on the Ameer Wala link of Lalian Road, where a speeding motorcycle struck a 65-year-old woman who was crossing the road. The woman was named as Khanan Bibi, wife of Manak Khan. She died at the scene. When Rescue 1122 personnel arrived, the woman had already passed away, and her family declined to have the body shifted to hospital.

Rescue 1122 used the two incidents to appeal to the public to drive carefully, avoid wrong turns and speeding, and follow traffic rules so that such accidents can be prevented.

The two crashes come a day after three separate road accidents across Jhang district injured ten people, including children, in incidents reported on this site on 6 November. That earlier round of crashes included a tyre burst on Bhakkar Road, a rickshaw-van collision near Mochiwala and a pick-up overturning on the M-4 motorway. Taken together, the two days underline how much of the district’s daily emergency workload happens on its roads.

Motorcycles are at the centre of both of the latest accidents. On Toba Road, the crash involved two motorcycles and a manoeuvre — a wrong turn — that left three riders hurt. On Lalian Road, a single speeding motorcycle killed a pedestrian who was crossing the road. In both cases the margin between a routine journey and a casualty was a matter of seconds.

For riders, the lesson is a familiar one but worth repeating. A wrong turn on a busy road, or speed that leaves no time to react to a pedestrian, can turn an ordinary trip into a tragedy. Checking mirrors and signalling before turning, keeping speed within limits in built-up areas, and watching for pedestrians crossing the road are simple habits that cost nothing and can save lives.

The report does not state whether police have registered cases in either incident, and this article does not guess at that point. What is confirmed is the toll from the two accidents: three people injured and taken to DHQ Hospital Jhang, and one woman dead at the scene near Chund Bharwana.
