51 Headmaster and Senior Headmaster Posts for Jhang as Punjab Approves 1,629 School Leadership Jobs

Jhang’s teachers and education graduates have 51 new school leadership posts to aim for, after the Punjab Finance Department approved the creation of 1,629 headmaster, headmistress, senior headmaster and senior headmistress posts across the province on 4 November 2026.

The approval came through an official concurrence, letter number FD/EnYA/HE/O/261104/02520, issued on 4 November and reported by the education notifications portal Schools STI. It covers all 40 districts of Punjab, and Jhang’s share is 51 posts: 16 headmasters, 26 headmistresses, five senior headmasters and four senior headmistresses.

Across the province, the 1,629 posts break down as 654 headmasters, 748 headmistresses, 177 senior headmasters and 50 senior headmistresses. Jhang’s 51 puts it among the larger district allocations in the province, behind Faisalabad with 79, Gujrat with 69, Kasur with 68, Lahore with 64 and Rahim Yar Khan with 60, and level with Sahiwal, which also receives 51.

The approval marks a structural change in how Punjab hires school heads. The Finance Department has abolished 1,629 traditional BS-17 and BS-18 posts and replaced them with an equal number of posts on a lump-sum pay package. The cost of the new posts will be borne by each District Education Authority from its share of the Provincial Finance Commission, rather than from a central provincial budget line.

That matters for Jhang’s schools because headships have been vacant in large numbers. Reporting on the proposal in late October put the number of government schools across Punjab with vacant headship positions at more than 2,000, with the new recruitment intended to fill 1,629 of them. In Jhang, as elsewhere, senior teachers are often handed additional charge of a school on top of their classroom duties, which pulls them away from teaching and loads them with administrative work they were not trained for.

There are, however, several steps still to go before anyone can apply. The Finance Department’s letter directs the School Education Department to approach the Contract Appointment Regularisation Committee to finalise the formal eligibility rules. A Selection Board headed by the Chief Secretary will then recommend the exact lump-sum salary figures, which need final sign-off from the Chief Minister of Punjab. No advertisement from the Punjab Public Service Commission has been issued yet, and no application deadline exists at this stage.

The expected criteria, as summarised by the education portal from the process so far, are a master’s degree or four-year BS honours degree in second division plus a B.Ed., M.Ed. or MA Education for the headmaster and headmistress posts, with no prior teaching or administrative experience required and an age limit of 21 to 35 years plus government age relaxation. The senior headmaster and senior headmistress posts are expected to require an M.Phil. degree plus a professional education degree and at least five years of teaching or administrative experience. The selection test is expected to be a single one-paper test of 100 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes. These details are the portal’s reading of the process; the formal rules are still being finalised, and candidates should rely on the official advertisement when it appears.

One figure that has circulated widely needs care. When the proposal was first reported on 26 October, it carried a suggested fixed monthly salary of Rs 150,000 for school heads. That was the proposal stage. The final lump-sum pay figures have not yet been recommended by the Selection Board or approved by the Chief Minister, so no salary should be treated as confirmed until the official notification says so.

For Jhang’s candidates, the practical advice is simple: watch the Punjab Public Service Commission website and the School Education Department’s notifications for the advertisement, keep degree and professional qualification documents ready, and do not pay anyone who claims to sell a seat or guarantee selection. The posts are real and the approval is issued; the advertisement, the eligibility rules and the pay are the pieces still to come.

This is the second staffing move in Jhang’s schools this week. On 3 November, selected School Teacher Interns reported to schools across the district under the STI programme. The headmaster recruitment, if it proceeds on schedule, would follow that by filling the leadership posts above them.
