The Punjab Police has carried out a fresh round of transfers and postings covering seventeen DSP-rank officers and district traffic officers across the province, and Jhang is one of the districts affected by the shuffle.
According to the official transfer notification dated 21 October 2026, Masood Ahmad, who was serving as District Traffic Officer (DTO) Sargodha, has been posted as District Traffic Officer Jhang. In a straight swap, Saeed Akhtar, the outgoing DTO Jhang, has been moved to the same post in Sargodha.
The order was part of a wider shake-up in which officers were moved between field postings, investigation wings, the Highway Patrol, the Special Branch, and the Punjab Safe Cities apparatus. Postings took effect immediately on issuance of the notification.
Why the post matters in Jhang right now
The District Traffic Officer is the officer who runs day-to-day traffic management in the district — from challans and road checkpoints to the enforcement of vehicle fitness rules. The timing of the change is significant for Jhang because the province is in the middle of a coordinated push against smog-linked traffic violations.
Earlier this month, the Punjab Traffic Police stepped up enforcement against smoke-emitting vehicles as part of anti-smog measures. A province-wide directive instructed Chief Traffic Officers and District Police Officers to run joint checking operations with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Transport Department, inspecting vehicles that produce excessive smoke and acting against those violating environmental regulations.
The same directive also ordered action against vehicles transporting sand, construction waste, and hay without proper coverings, requiring such material to be secured with tarpaulin so dust does not spread on to the roads. Motorists were told to keep headlights, rear lights, fog lights, and indicators in working order, while commercial and heavy vehicles — including loaders and tractor-trolleys, a common sight on Jhang’s roads — were instructed to display reflective tapes and stickers for visibility in poor weather.
What residents can expect
A new officer at the top of traffic policing usually means a few weeks of visibly tighter enforcement as the new command settles in. For Jhang’s motorists, the practical message is simple: make sure your vehicle is not emitting visible smoke, your documents are in order, and lights and indicators all work — particularly with the smog season setting in.
Jhang News Network will keep an eye on whether the new DTO brings any fresh local initiatives, such as dedicated anti-smog checkpoints or school and college traffic-awareness drives, and will report them as they happen.
