Schools across Jhang will stay closed on Monday, 9 November 2026, as Punjab observes a holiday to mark Allama Iqbal Day. The Punjab School Education Department has formally announced the closure through an official notification, and all public and private educational institutions in the province will suspend academic activities for the day.
The department has directed all District Education Authorities to make sure schools across Punjab observe the decision, which means the holiday applies to government-run and privately managed schools in Jhang alike. Parents in the district should therefore plan for no classes on Monday, and schools are expected to resume normal timings from Tuesday, 10 November.
The holiday marks the birth anniversary of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, widely recognised as the Poet of the East and one of the most influential figures in the region’s literary and intellectual history. Iqbal Day is observed every year on 9 November, and the closure of educational institutions is part of the annual observance.
The announcement was confirmed on 5 November, giving parents and schools four days’ notice before the holiday. That timing matters for families arranging childcare and for schools planning the week’s lessons, since the closure falls on a Monday and breaks the school week at its start.
Sindh had announced a similar decision a day earlier. The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department confirmed that all public and private educational institutions under its administrative control would also remain closed on 9 November. According to that department’s notification, the holiday decision follows recommendations made during a meeting of the Steering Committee on Education held on 12 February 2026.
For Jhang’s parents, the practical points are straightforward. The holiday covers both public and private schools, so there is no need to check with individual schools about whether classes are running โ the notification applies across the board. School transport will not run on the day, and any examinations, tests or school events scheduled for Monday will need to be rearranged by the schools themselves.
It is worth noting that this is a single-day holiday for Iqbal Day, not part of a longer break. The school week resumes as normal on Tuesday, and parents should send children to school at the usual time on 10 November unless their school communicates otherwise.
The announcement comes at a time when air quality across Punjab is poor and smog is affecting daily life, but the 9 November closure is for Iqbal Day alone. No separate smog-related school closure has been announced for Jhang, and parents should rely on official notifications from the Environment Protection Agency and the School Education Department โ not on forwarded messages on social media โ for any future closure orders.
In short: Jhang’s schools are closed on Monday, 9 November 2026 for Iqbal Day. Classes resume on Tuesday, 10 November.
