Pakistan weather today: Lahore air improves as AQI eases to 155

4 min read No comments

Lahore’s air quality improved on Friday, 6 November, with the Air Quality Index at 155, rated Unhealthy, down from 189 the previous day.

The fall from 189 to 155 represents an improvement in the city’s air, but the rating remains Unhealthy. The primary pollutant is PM2.5, and air quality is not satisfactory, despite the improvement from the previous day’s reading.

The improvement should therefore be read with care. A lower index is a welcome change, but a reading of 155 still places Lahore’s air in the Unhealthy category, and the warning that air quality is not satisfactory remains prominent.

Current conditions in Lahore are fair, with a temperature of 27°C. Humidity stands at 42 percent, the wind is calm, pressure is 1018 hPa and falling, and the UV index is 5, rated moderate.

The daytime forecast is mostly sunny, with a high of 30°C. The hourly outlook shows 12pm mostly sunny at 28°C, 1pm partly cloudy at 29°C, 2pm to 3pm mostly sunny at 30°C, and 5pm sunny at 28°C, tracking the rise to the day’s high and the easing that follows.

The night will be clear, falling to a low of 16°C. The hourly figures for the evening show 9pm at 23°C and 11pm at 21°C, as temperatures fall from the daytime high towards the overnight low.

No rain is expected, with a zero percent chance of rain during the day. The dry forecast, combined with the mostly sunny conditions, points to a day without precipitation in Lahore.

Sunrise was at 6:22am and sunset is at 5:09pm PKT. Those times frame the daylight hours for Friday, with the sun setting in the early evening.

Saturday, 7 November, is forecast to be sunny, with a high of 30°C and a low of 16°C. The outlook for Saturday mirrors Friday’s temperatures, with the same high and the same low, and sunny conditions expected.

The AQI figure of 155, down from 189, is the headline for the day’s weather update. The improvement of thirty-four points is a notable move, but the Unhealthy rating means that the air remains a concern for those in the city.

PM2.5, named as the primary pollutant, is the main factor behind the reading. The statement that air quality is not satisfactory underlines that the improvement has not yet brought the air into a satisfactory range.

The current conditions — fair weather, 27°C, humidity of 42 percent, calm wind, pressure of 1018 hPa and falling, and a moderate UV index of 5 — describe a mild and settled day in Lahore, apart from the air quality.

The daytime high of 30°C, reached in the early afternoon, and the overnight low of 16°C, describe a range of fourteen degrees between the warmest and coolest parts of the day. The clear night, falling to 16°C, follows the mostly sunny day.

The hourly breakdown gives a detailed picture of the day. From 28°C at midday, the temperature rises to 29°C at 1pm and to 30°C at 2pm and 3pm, before easing to 28°C at 5pm. In the evening, it falls to 23°C by 9pm and to 21°C by 11pm.

The zero percent chance of rain during the day means that no rainfall is expected to clear the air or to change the conditions. The dry, mostly sunny weather is the forecast for the whole of Friday.

For Saturday, the forecast of sunny conditions with a high of 30°C and a low of 16°C suggests a similar day to Friday, with the same temperatures and clear skies expected to continue.

The weather update, framed around the new AQI figure, therefore carries two messages: the air has improved from 189 to 155, and it remains Unhealthy, with PM2.5 as the primary pollutant and air quality not satisfactory.
